You've Got Another "Thing" Coming

Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we’re saving the English language sixty seconds at a time! I’m Lauren Smyth, and if you think you’re good at English idioms, you’ve got another thing coming.
OK, even as the Chief Grammarian, I’ll admit I didn’t know that was the wrong form of the expression until today. Which goes to show there’s always more you can learn. To have “another thing coming” means that you’re about to be proven wrong about something. But here’s the problem. Most people say “another thing coming,” but it’s actually “another think coming,” because you’re about to rethink a currently held belief. This expression may be more commonly heard in the southern United States, but it’s fairly standard everywhere you go.
So, if you think the correct expression is “another thing coming”… let’s just say, you’ve got another think coming.
